turning stock R230 to AMG & Audio Command question...

Hello,

This may be a relatively dumb question to ask but I can't seem to find any info regarding this matter...

I'm planning to fit AMG body kit & wheels to my R230. Since the original R230 comes with 2 single muffler outlet on each side what do people normally do ? (since AMG comes with 4 muffler outlets)

Does the factory AMG package from Benz include the AMG exhaust system or just a modification done to the muffler tips ?

Secondly, my car doesn't come with the audio command unit with color LCD display it came with a simple cassett/CD stacker unit just like the one in the photo:

If I want to go for a used unit will it work via plug & play (don't need the sat nav working) ? or I need to fiddle with other components? I drive a euro spec car wonder if a NA spec unit work at all & can I fit any unit from a '06 '07 car to a '04 vehicle ?

Thank You!

any help is much appreciated

wow what the... ive NEVER seen a SL with that cassette dinosaur stuff...
dayum someone decided to cheap out on it LOL, looks like a joke! I would change the system if I could!

But back to your question. Apparently the cost to implement an aftermarket system would about about $3000. Newer comand systems will not work as the 04 model uses a different cpu.

I highly suggest to go aftermarket, I have an 05, planning to ditch it as soon as the new kenwood deck is easy to find. the amg quad exhaust only comes on true amg, not the sport package vehicles. to upgrade the look you need to find either just mufflers or someone selling the tips, which come up every once in a while in the classifieds

In UK, SL350 didn't have COMAND as standard.

If you look on my info site (www.mercupgrades.com) it tells you how to remove the wood trim
Then switchover is the case of a little adapter set, a GPS antenna an a COMAND unit.
You can then get the cluster coded so it displays navigation instructions.

If you want to stay "as per factory" that is a nice easy upgrade - but the COMAND that fits in there is now very old, first released in 1999 in the W210 E class.

Thanks guys !

Yep, I can't agree more on the stock casset thing ! comon... who still uses their cassetts? HAS TO BE CHANGED
In that case what Audio Command unit should I be looking for? only the '04 unit or anything from '02-'05 ?

As per AMG muffler If I order the original AMG rear box/muffler (according to NEMES1S info, AMG package comes with tips only so I assume this is the genuine part off the SL55) will it sound terrible? I have the first edition SL350 with the V6 in it (245bhp model)

we don't get the sl350, so I have no idea on the sound, I have the v12tt and it sounds great without mufflers, just the tips to look good on the back

instead of starting a new thread I guess I'll continue here...

I've finally made purchase on a Comand unit taken off a 03/04 SL350 (same year and model as my car) The item arrived and I found out there are no cables or anything included besides the system. A message from my mechanic came to me, mentioning I do need the set of cables that comes with the Comand unit in order to get it work. My question is, is it true ? or the cables behind my current unit actually fits into the LCD comand unit? ( my current unit is a black & white benz audio system as see in the first post in this thread )

What can I do now? Did I just spent a fortune & realize the Comand unit is useless now ?

Please help

You will need an adapter set and a GPS antenna - its all "plug and play" then.

Send me a PM and i'll tell you what/where
