Speeding Ticket!!!
Got a speeding ticket two weeks ago... my very first ticket in the SL. Have had S55/S550/S63 in the past but no speeding tickets ... but got it in my SL550...
It was in Staten Island. From what I heard, the cops there take it very personal if you speed on their watch... Got pulled over for doing 73 in a 50mph work zone. I didn't think I was going that fast but the officer wouldn't even look at me. Just shoved my PBA card back stating he doesn't need that and handed me my 6 point ticket! ouch!
I have hired an attorney as there is no plea bargaining in the state of NY! This blows! There goes my friggin' insurance!
Still haven't told the wife yet...
Just wanted to vent... that's all!

NYC high way patrol are the WORST! they are know to give the wives of regular cops tickets!
sorry to hear what happened. Try bringing your cop friend to the hearing, it can help if you catch the Leo right before the hearing.
NYC also sucks because of the no plea bargaining rule. It's about the revenue and the kick backs from the insurance companies. I gotta move.

Yes, the attorney did tell me that NYC Hwy patrol are the worst and it's just a revenue generating engine. The PBA card I have is from my cop buddy in NJ and not NY. I hired this ex-judge who now only deals with traffic violations in NYC area. He did tell me that there is no guarantee I won't get 6 points... all he can do is to make a case that regarding the error ratio of the specific type of radar he had used and get the speeding ticket to below 20mph (4 points);
You can move to NJ but I can honestly say, it ain't much better. ...

laser jammers w/valentine 1 are the best combo imho. These days highway patrol usually uses laser guns and your radar detector is worthless against it.
Even if you had a nyc pba most Nyc highway patrol wouldn't have recognized it anyway.
Keep postponing and good luck!

My solution which I have used for more than 30 years is drivers licenses in two states. Insurance has my home state license while tickets go to license where i have another residence. Occasionally, I'm asked about the discrepancy between registration and license and reply that I have a license from the stae where I spend most my time and registration where the car is garages. That has always worked. I pay all tickets but none is shown for insurance. Depending on where you get a ticket and where you have the license, tickets may or may not show up on that license.

the lawyer is usually a waste of money - these guys testify 20x a week and have a 99% kill ratio - If you give them a NYC card they can verify and call the cop they usually give you a lecture and let you skate

Had the same thing happen in New Rochelle. It was 2:30 AM. Short story they would not tell me how much the ticket would be unless I admitted guilt. Had a "court" date in New Rochelle several weeks later, turned out that I met with a hearing officer we negotiated the amount down to $120 and no points. Then went into the court room where the judge asked if I agreed to the fine, OK pay the clerk on your way out. The hearing officer agreed that the cop was being a "jerk".
I know that New Rochelle is not Staten Island, just telling my story. You may not need that lawyer. I was sure that the fine would be over $500.
Good luck

I called my attorney, who happens to be an ex-traffic judge, and he said that what he's aiming for is to get it converted to a 4 point ticket by disputing the accuracy of the radar. The cop wrote on the ticket that I was speeding in "zone" ... whatever tham means... the total fine is ~ $480 if I were to pay the ticket without contesting. I don't know if I should have paid 1k to the attorney all things considered... oh well!
Wifey still doesn't know... that's another problem I've yet to tackle.

Agreed. There is no plea bargaining in NY as we have in NJ. Either I pay FULL or don't pay anything at all... As others have said, it's yet another ploy to make $. I can't even imagine my insurance hike... especially the fact that I am in NJ.

Not all States have extradition(?) agreements for points with all the other States, but they frequently have them with at least their neighboring States.

Did you get a speeding ticket in one of the 5 boroughs or outside the NYC area?
Yes... 1k ... But he came highly recommended.
An update is that I got a letter from my attorney stating that the court has setup a date of hearing in early October. Let's see... I am hoping for reduction in points or even the officer not showing up. But I have never been that lucky.
