My car does go up to 260 km/h and then the electronics kick in and limit the speed. Does anybody have any experiences about removing that limit and the max speed the SL 500 is capable of?

 

I recently went with the MBOC of Great Britain to the Brabus factory in Germany and asked the question about derestricting the car. Brabus have the technology to do this mod and said the car will run on to 170 MPH.

While I was at the factory, I also enquired about having the TV on for the passenger whilst driving. They did the mod for that in about 10 minutes and best of all, didn't charge !

Brabus also did demonstrations in an S class that had a 7.4 engine(with brakes to match) The driver went up to 280 KPH, but we were blocked by traffic so we could not reach the top speed of 320 KPH.

 

For just 10 km/h more it might not be worth the effort to disable the limit.

But this TV thing makes me wonder: is the TV tuner just disabled and thus just a setting in the service menus?

 

I don't think it is a service menu item, because the local MB main dealer could not do the modification although they tried hard.

Brabus Germany said their English Brabus agent who has full facilities could not do the mod.

 

Is it me or does this seem like The yard and CIA and stuff like that?

 

Yes I know what you mean. when I have rented a Car in the USA there is generally a Sign that says 'wait for next agent' , and I have visions of meeting James Bond !
