I put a custom exhaust on my sl and it sounds NICE!
I had about 50 positive comments and about 3 people tell me benz's are not supposed to sound that way. 2 of them didn't even own a benz

Not sure I would go strictly straight pipe, I've been considering electric cutouts so I can keep the quiet for when we are touring. Thinking the area pic'd below is probably the best place to put em.....
As to folks and noise, due to complaints alot of places have started enforcing noise ordnances on motorcycles and most recently the little rice cars with their thump'n systems and bumble bee exhaust systems. I'd like to think a nice muscle car would be able to rumble thru without hassle but if they heard you coming thru they'd probably be looking elsewhere for whats making the noise, not expecting a MB to sound like that.

Straight pipes from the exhaust manifold back? Notice a huge difference in low end torque?

Feels that the car is very BEASTLY. No joke, especially when you're going through any place with covers oh man.... you will wet your pants.
I drive by and everyone immediately notices and one kid even starting taking pictures.
