Problem with wrecked 02 sl500
Hello!
i am a new sl500 owner from Finland. I bought my car from a place where insurance company's sells wrecked cars. The damage on my car is not so bad. problem is, I cant open the trunk. Batterys are dead because the car have been in storage for long time. I tried this https://mbworld.org/forums/cl55-amg-...d-battery.html. I got power to gauges but when I try to open trunk the red light of the hardtop system in the center console start to blink. Also there is an image of a open top in the display but the top is down. I attach few pictures to clarify. Thanks in advance.

Maybe an issue with the PSE pump that controls the lock? try spamming the trunk unlock button and see if the trunk moves at all... if it Does the initial pop but wont open, close it again try a unlocking it a few times. Sometimes you get lucky if the leak isn't to bad.

First thing when I push the trunk button, the red light starts to blink. I guess the system thinks that the top is open even though it is not. Actually I have another problem too. I cant get the car in neutral, its stuck on park. I am hoping
this will be solved when I get the batteries loaded but is there any other way, because the car is very difficult to move.

are you sure that you are operating the boot lock correctly? its easy to get wrong and assume it isnt working. You need to turn then push it up. Looking at the light front end damage i see no reason why your boot wouldnt open mechanically, there is no way that can be jammed?
I assume you have the correct key :p

I think i am. I guess I have to give it one more try. I am using the metal key inside the electric one, that cant be wrong, right? although the passenger side glove box wont open either, so could the key be wrong?

The MB dealer will make you a new blade for just a few Eur's . Just supply them with the VIN #.
Try spraying WD40 up in lock .

I have now tried everything. Starting to get very desperate. In my opinion, system thinks that top is opening or something, thus it wont let the trunk open. I am thinking to buy an axe and hack the hole lock section off. Please help me!!

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
When i disconnect the rear battery, I also have a little problem opening the trunk.
Maybe a little grease would help.
But to get it open when I use the metal key, I'm turning it anti clockwise, and when I'm holding the key to the left, I then push with the other hand the trunk opening handle.
It's a little tricky, probably because the struts also are very weak, I'm going to replaced them soon.

I tried to do that. Altough I dont have to hold the key to left, it stays there by itself and when I pull the opening lever there is no resistance.

There is maybe a 1cm slack when I push the trunk up and down. I think at start there were not as much, but after I have pounded the trunk, it has maybe come a little bit more loose. I havent disconnect the battery but I doubt there is any juice left due to long period of non-use.

Jari It does sound like the car thinks the top is not fully closed or open.
If this is the case then the trunk will not open. If the top is up can you try the with the ignition on, play with the "top" switch to fully close or open until it says top up or down? Then try the trunk.
The battery for the engine start is under the hood, any way of starting the car so the rear battery charges? I apologize if I am off base. Maybe worth a try.

Cant start the car due to the damages in front. To get them fixed I have to move the car to another location and thats difficult, because the car is stuck on park. So somehow I have to get some juice to that rear battery and here we are again, the damn trunk. This is a vicious cycle.

Have to try that with the glovebox, thanks for the advice. All the other problems are still here, if someone has any ideas, please share.
