LE pricing

Although the dealer won’t have LE pricing until next Tuesday, I am getting the sense that they are going to want about $15k over MSRP, which sounds like about $105k. My question for people like Mantylar who are in line for the LE model is whether this premium is consistent with your experience? Or have you been on the list for a long while and so are getting it at MSRP? My deposit is for a 55, where I am supposed to be first in line with delivery late this year. My intent would be to trade in the LE for that car. Does anyone in the group have an opinion on whether the car would depreciate all the way down a normal trade-in price for a car with a $90k MSRP by year-end (maybe $65k)? With 2000 LEs coming over it sounds like it would. Even though I am “sillydriver,” a $40k cost for a summer of fun is giving me pause (actually less the dollars than aggravation over being taken advantage of).

I would pick up a used SLK 32 and drive it for the summer...you are going to be seeing SL500 all over the place...I definitely would not pay over MSRP for the LE.

My dealer has agreed to sell me a LE for MSRP. I talked to him late yesterday. He said MB has still not stated what the LE or "standard" SL 500 pricing will be. A number of folks have stated that they think the LE's will be $9,500 above the base price car. Currently, a 2002 Desgino Silver CL class costs an additonal $10,000 per the MBUSA web site. Hopefully, next Tuesday we will know the exact pricing. I am first in line for an SL 55 at my dealer. I doubt I will see the car until next year, because he is not a high volume dealer.

Based on everything I have heard, I think SL's will be in short supply for more than a year. I think I may lose a little when I upgrade to the SL 55, but not much. My dad met with the dealer in Sarasota, Florida. The are getting 130 LE's. As of a month ago they had sold 85 of them for $20,000 over what ever the MSRP will be! I see others, on this forum, posting waiting lists of more than 2 years for the new SL. Eventually, MB will catch up with demand, but it sounds like we should not have a problem selling ours when its time to move to the SL 55's.

mantylar - my understanding is that pricing for the SL500 (regular and Launch Edition) is set and the dealerships should have this data. +$9K is what i was told as well for the LE, though i haven't gotten a solid answer about what that $9K gets you over base stock.

Doody,

That's interesting, maybe my dealer is not informed. He was very clear yesterday that pricing would be released on the 28th. What have you been quoted for base price MSRP?

Does anyone think there will be problem moving the SL55, a few months after purchase? I will be married to my Lady when we take delivery. There is a possibility that we would like to have some little ones a few months after the big day, and realistically, the SL55 will not make sense, but....

mantylar - my sales guy had just recently gone through training on the R230. maybe the training is making its rounds through the country. i didn't get specifics from him, but my understanding is that they laid it all out at the training. i could be wrong - don't quote me.

The saleswoman I deal with also told me she had her training session the other day. I suppose the salespeople have been told the price and have also been told not to disclose it to their custiomers until next Tuesday.
