Identifying options on an '03-'05 SL500?
I'm currently looking to get an '03 to '05 SL500 and trying to figure out how to identify what options a car has without having access to the original window sticker. I know that a dealer can use Star Tech or something software to do this on '07 or newer but the system won't allow them to do an '03-'05.
Options like Spt Pkg, Parktronic, Keyless Go are pretty easy to spot, but there are a bunch of others, SL1, SL2, SL3 Distronic, Heated/Ventilated seat, etc. that are not so obvious.
Is there an on-line site that will allow you to enter a VIN # or are there easy ways to figure this out just looking at the car or photos in ads? Also curious if all SL's came with the ABC suspension and NAV or were these options as well?
Thanks and I look forward to joing the group here once I find the "right" car.

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
How to check out options on a sl
Hi, you can open the hood and see underneath a sticker that says which codes the car was delivered with.
It's quite small 8 by 4 centimeter, so it's difficult to check out unless you do it yourself or get pictures of it.
Here's a picture:

Then you must know what the codes stand for.
Examples from my car:
220 Parktronic front and back
260 elimination of type sign on trunk lid
352 operation and monitoring system (OMS)
401 Comfortseats with cooling and heating
500 Electric adjustable mirrir with memory
614 Bi Xenon
682 fire extinguisher
790 AMG complete wheels
803 change of model year
810 sound package bose
819 CD changer - in trunk
852 Mobil telefon klargjort
882 interior motion sensor
889 Keyless go
985 coc paper and registration certificate
Y83 designo alcantara roofliner anthracite
N53 Don't know
N91 Don't know
N98 Don't know
W72 Designo Labrador Blue Pearl Gnanite
X11 designo natural leather Black
032 designo mystic blue
I remember that only the sl 350 had abc as an option, the rest has it as standard.
Good luck with your search

PM me your VIN and email address, and I will email you a list of everything factory installed on your car.
It lists the specific options (not packages like SL1 and SL2) but if you know what was in the package, you can figure out what package it has.
I was able to look up the option codes that come in SL1 and figure out that mine had all of the items in SL1.. which means it does have that package.
Sport package is a separate code, so I will be able to tell if it has it or not.
I looked at a lot of SL's so I can (with about 95% accuracy) tell you out of the list what is an option and what came on every SL.

Thanks! I have not found the right car yet. Just trying to figure out what some cars have on them that are listed on Autotrader, Car.com, e-bay, etc.
A lot of sellers, especially private sellers, don't have any idea of what their car has or don't list everything so I have to try to figure out by looking at photos. That's why I've been trying to find a search tool that would list the options after inserting a VIN number. There are some, even one on this site, that will list standard features but nothing about optional items.

Thanx for the headsup. I too entered the VIN for my old CLK that I accepted an insurance payout for minor rear end damage that I chose to fix myself and there was no record of it. Seems that the only insurance info that get's entered is "change of title status" due to a salvaging.
