Advice please 2003 R230 ?
I am considering buying a very low mileage 2003 R230, (20,000km).
It is a private sale, so no opportunity to purchase any warranty.
I have heard that this year model had many issues, is this true?
Just how shortsighted am I being?
Could I please ask for some advice and thoughts on issues which I should look out for and any general advice.
Alan

I would not go for 2003 even low mileage is tempting. The car was parked most of the time and it is not good for the systems installed. I would go for 2005 on model, but it is my opinion.
Everything depends on the price.. how much is it?

in short... yes, you will have a lot of problems. That being said if you can buy an all inclusive aftermarket warranty, Aaanndd you have a dealer that will offer a free loaner when your car is being serviced... you could use it as a daily driver.
just have to pay the deductible on your warranty maybe 3 times a year? Depends on how lucky you get.

The asking price is $79k - Australian dollars, I would not offer the full asking price , but this is not far above the average going prices given the low
Expensive when compared to US and European prices, but the local Aussie cost when new was $289k.
Jealous of the prices for Mercedes in the US !
Thanks for the useful advice.

Wow! $79k Aussies! That is awfully expensive for a 2003 SL! That comes up to about $81630.7130 here in the US. You could even get into the newer R231 for that price here in the US! Please run away from that deal. That is outright robbery in my opinion. You could definitely do better. Is this even a 55 or just a regular 500?
