Sl600 wheel switch 18" to 19" ?

I am considering changing my stock wheels on my 2006 Sl600 18" to a stock set of 2008 sl65 19". What is the best tire size to go with so it has the least effect on my speedometer?

19" stock size should work, i guess.
now you drive 255/40-18 front and 285/35-18 back.
19" should be 255/35-19 and 285/30-19 or 265/35-19 and 295/30-19

19"

I have those exact sizes on my new 19" wheels, 255/35/19 and 285/30/19 works perfectly without hindering ride quality.

yung dubb,

The 19" look way nicer. They fill out the wheel well much better than the 18". Are the wheels stock on your sl600? Thanks for the picture.

Thanks, my wheels replace the stock 18" whels that came with the car. They're actually replica SLS AMG wheels and the offsets seem exactly as the stock offsets for a perfect fit. You certainly can't go wrong with the wheels you have chosen as well.

Let us know!

18" and 19" have the same ride quality. No difference.

Anyone switching to 19" wheels might want to look at the CLS55/63 wheels. Their offset is a little bit lower, giving the car a nicer, more aggressive stance.

i would not agree on the ride quality. it is different.
19" is stiffer and more direct, for sure.

i have changed from 18" to 19" on two of my cars and ride is noticably more direct.

I agree about the ride being slightly stiffer, but not in a bad way, and more direct. This is actually a benefit, at least for the 600 due to its softer spring settings compared to say a 55.

I can only share my experience, but keep in mind that there are many factors contributing to ride quality besides wheel size.

First and foremost, the tire type and brand. Any changes beyond standard tire size, such as wider tires, wider rims, lower offsets, etc.

I switched from 18" to 19" on an SL55 and SL600 (always from AMG to AMG wheels) and did not notice any ride quality difference.

I did experience a bigger different in ride quality when switching tire brands (from Bridgestone RE050's to Michelin Super Sports) on the same size wheel.

I am having a hard time finding a 285/30/19 in the Michelin Super sports.

What size Michelin super sports fit on the 19" amg wheels?

That sounds like the right size, but I will check on the wheels when I get home (currently have our winter set on the car - 19" Bridgestone LM060's - awesome snow tires)

Wolfman,

I can get that size in Perrelli and Bridgestone. I was wondering on the 19"(SL55)AMG rims if anyone put Michelin super sports on them? My Sl600 is under cover and 2 cteks hooked up. So snow tire are not needed a good summer tire is what i like to run.

Thanks for the response,

Trimix

To clarify on the 19", to purchase Michelin super sports you have to buy for the rear 295/30/19 and 255/25/19 for front.

Michelin does not make a 285/30/19 in the summer tread super sports.

FYI

Understood on the snow tires. Was just remarking how great they are.
I finally dug up the summer tires in the garage and discovered that I was incorrect in stating that they were Super Sports. They are actually Michelin Sport PS2's...

Based on your comment I checked on tirerack and saw that they are also not available in 285/30/19. Not sure what the deal is??

I did attach a quick snapshot. Sorry for the poor quality.
