Visit Shop displays when I try to pu the top down
One day the top went down fine (2004 SL500) and the next day when I went to put it down it would not go down and said Visit Shop in the display. Not good news!!! No indications of any problems when it did go down on the previous day.. Suggestions?

Similar Problem
Last week the weather in Connecticut was finally right for some top-down driving. No, that would have been too easy. Halfway back to the trunk, the roof just stopped. No amount of pulling back on the raise/lower control budged it. Finally, I pushed down on the control and was able bring it back to where I started. On the second try it did the same thing. On the third it worked normally. I exercised it a few more times and everything seems fine.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
My guess is that contacts were dusty in the control after the long winter. I will probably clean the whole system. I didn't see the "see dealer" message, but I might have just been distracted.

Did it not go down at all? Or did it go part of the way and stop?

You guys are making me nervous... please let me know what model year and mileage of your SL500 or SL/550 ... mine is '06 SL500 but only have about 5K miles so I hope I don't experience those issues anytime soon...but would still like to have an idea of when to expect these kind of issues to crop up.

Do you have a STAR manual? If not, I suggest you invest in one ASAP. Many problems can be resolved with a DIY attitude and a little elbow grease. Sometimes the problem isnt as complicated as it seems.
This might also help you narrow it down a bit. Please post back any updates.

Do you have any message indicating "trunk separator not closed?" If you see this on the instrument panel then get let me know.

Star Manual
I invested in the Star Manual. I even bought a used laptop to keep it handy in the garage. So far, it seems pretty thorough, but it lacks some of the stuff later than 2006, especially regarding the Command head unit. I haven't fully explored the on-line features. It sure beats the 20-lb paper manuals I've been using forever on other cars.

. I found a comment on line somewhere suggesting to check the "folding flaps" in the trunk lid to see if they were in the home position.. When I got home last night I checked and the passenger side flap is hanging down about an inch and I can hear that it is not activating the home position microswitch. I can push it up and down with no resistance where the one on the left side is in the home position (snug against the trunk) and cannot be moved.. Looks like (hopefully) the source of the problem... Now how do I fix that?

search "top closes, trunk will not" or "flaps"
or look at the above "sticky"
This turned out to be an easy fix.
Last summer one of my flaps drooped.
The part was $50 and about an hour of my time to replace the part on both sides.
Now everything works great.

The STAR manual (Part # P-2700-230-07) can be found at:
http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/o...stedDocId=9124
I know that there may be lower-cost sources. One small problem is that this manual only covers the 230 from 2003 through 2006 model years. It covers most of my 2008 issues adequately. I am not sure about your 2009.

Roof "Flap" problem
Great news... Installed the 230 175 01 11 (took about half an hour last night) and my roof is working again... Will replace the other side this weekend since they came in a pair.. Great coaching!
