Wheel Adapters and Fit a non 5 x 112 rim

Hey Guys,

I have a deal I'm trying to make on a really rare and very cool rim and it's bolted and spaced out for another vehicle. It's 5 x 108 and 40mm (front) and 45mm (back)

I'm looking at getting a wheel adapter made that's 20mm thick and will change my bolt out from 5 x 112 to the new 5 x 108.

My question is about the offset. Since the rim is already 40mm, and I'm using a spacer, am I moving the offset closer to stock (30mm) so with the 20mm spacer, I'll be at 20mm offset. Thus the rim will be a bit more (10mm) closer to the wheel well?

Is this making sense, or have I got it backwards?

Thanks,

With a 20mm offset, your wheels will stick out more (wider stance). I had Brabus wheels that I took to 25mm and had to roll the lip (car was lowered) for the front, otherwise there is a risk of fender/tire damage.

Rear should be fine at 25mm offset.

Pulling the Trigger on the Rims

Well, I'm gonna make the deal and make it work. Thanks to Wolfman for the input. For what ever reason I was struggling with the concept of the offset and the spacer created by the adapter. I'm getting the rims picked up by uShip and delivered this week. They are the OZ Tuner Racing Leonardo III. 20x9 front 20x10 back. I'm going to put Vred's on them 245's front and 275's backs.

The seller told me that I could get an adapter that's a 5 x 4.5 to 5 x 108 and it'll work ok with the mercedes as 5 x 4.5 is really close to 5 x 112. I'm not sure honestly. If someone would confirm that. We will use hubcentrics to accurately fit the MB 66.5 hub and the adapter hole @ 73mm. So they will supposedly fit perfect.

Any additional input would be appreciated.

Thx!!

Since wheels are et40 front and et45 rear, once you'll use adapters to fit them you won't need any spacers. Normally, such adapters are 20-25mm. So ideally what you want is a 20mm front adapter for 9" et20, while rear can be either 20mm or 25mm for 10" et25 or et20 respectively.

The most important part. Even if you can get 108pcd wheel to 114pcd hub adapter (if 108 to 112 is not available), you still will need Wobble Bolts to "fit" 114pcd hub adapter onto the 112pcd hub, which also means that 114pcd part must be cone seat (which they normally are) otherwise wobble bolts can not be used.

Why the skinny tires? Stock is 255/285 on 8 1/2" & 9 1/2" rims.
With wider rims I would go at least with stock widths if not wider.

I would assume OP wants to use taller than stock tires - 245/35-20 front 275/30-20 (285/30-20 also could be used) rear.
IMHO the most important here is not as much tires' width and profile as the tires' weight. These specific wheels are heavy - about 36lbs front and 37lbs rear (even though centers are forged). Adapters also are a few pounds each. Something to think about.

FYI - I bailed on this rim/hub adapter deal. After more research there aren't alot of people who recommend an adapter situation on such a heavy car. So I bought a set of Giovanna's that are perfect fit, and should have them next week. I'll do a photo shoot once they arrive. Thanks for all the input!
