I am thinking about buying a star diagnostic unit for my own use , could anyone advise me on the model that would work well with my 2005 sl600 ?. I have seen many on ebay but not sure which model to go for . Any help on advise would be greatly appriacted please.

I would advise to stay away from the SDconnect. There are two called the C4 and the SDconnect will use the wireless connection. I tried everything to get one to work for 4 weeks with no success and that included the seller connecting to it through the internet. I have the C4 without the wireless now and it has worked every time. You will also need to buy the hard drive with the software on it and a IBM or Dell laptop. I have seen advertisement of a hard drive that will work in any laptop but I don't know how they will work. Do a search for MB star and read everything you can find first.

Gonna drag this thread back out...anyone know what the best diag unit to get? Have a 2005 sl600 and a 2015 sl550 and would like to to be able to work with both vehicles

The C3/C4 interface does not matter, but you need a version of SDS that goes through MY2015. If you are very computer savvy, you can by the multiplexer unit (~$250) and then download the software (there are download service where it is "free"). Or, buy the multiplexer with a HD that has SDS on it (~$350). If you are not a computer geek, you'll probably want to buy a whole turnkey system including the laptop (~$1000).

I would ask how the software is delivered. The easiest to use is "virtualized". You use VMWare to run a virtual computer on your computer so the host hardware is not important, as long as you have an RS-232 port. Here's another option - about as cheap as I've seen a turnkey system:

I've emailed them, but it only looks like it goes up to 2012...I have a 2005 and a 2015...thanks for your input!
