Unhappy SL500 2005 trunk opening

Hi

My 2005 SL500 driver's door trunk opening switch does work, as the trunk does unlock, but then it lock again. Sometimes, if I click the switch just right (?) the trunk will stay unlocked, and the light on the switch on, but most of the times the trunk re-locks and the little red light goes back off.
Feels like an adjustment issue, but I cannot figure it out.
On my S430 I had an unlock problem which if finally solved by noticing that the black below in the locking mechanism had separated (interlocking teeth broke off) and thus did not allow air pressure to build up. I just put it back together and used bailing wire to hold it closed. Works great.

Sounds like the struts need to be replaced. Replaced the struts on my wife's 2005 many times. They don't last that long. Easy DIY.

Talking SL500 trunk opening

Per suggestion, I purchased two gas struts for the trunk lid @ $15 each and installed them. Everything works, the trunk pops open; once open it stays fully open, etc.
Installing the struts was easy, once I figured out the trick.
Thanks for the suggestion
