SL600 RennTech !!

After driving and purely enjoying my new 2004 SL600 for the last couple of weeks, I decided to bring her up to RennTech for some mods. WOOOEEEEE! She's a ride now!

Day one we put her on the Dyno and she pulled 454hp at the rear wheels without any mods. Because it took so long to install the Escort SRX we didn't have time to Dyno the car after day two. We did the ECU3 Computer Upgrade and the new Transmission Computer (from a CL65) and I can tell you the throttle response and acceleration literally takes your breath away! Even at 30+ mph pushing the throttle to the floor lights up the rear wheels before the traction control can make any adjustments! Driving down the highway at 80mph and pushing the throttle down gets you up and over 120 with your back firmly pressed/jammed into the seat in no time flat and traffic dissapearing in the rear view mirror like they're parked at a red light!

I'll have the car back up at RennTech next week to have the Trunk Deck Lid Spoiler installed after painting and to put it back on the Dyno since we ran out of time this trip...

Stay tuned for pics and more information!

Fantastic! Posts like yours are definitely making up my mind to get their ECU solution for the SL600 I have on order for spring. Quick questions: 1) is there any downside to getting the Stage 3 ECU and 2) does the transmission computer give you a sportier shift program or does it just raise the torque limitation on the transmission. Any other technical details would be welcome. Thanks.

Yes, I will have copies of the Dyno tests before and after but, I won't be doing the after until next week.

While I'm not a "techie" my understanding is that the CL65 transmission computer interprets the increased torque and hp better by holding gears longer, down shifting more aggressively, shifting faster, adds the "manual" shifting mode ala AMG, etc, etc... Unfortunately, no buttons on the steering wheel for shifting. For more technical questions call RennTech that's their business. Also, there's more info on their website.

From my brief experience with the ECU upgrade, the only "downside" is a touchier throttle...and maybe "touchie" isn' the right word but, maybe more "positive". My understanding is that there's very little difference in gas mileage or wear & tear on engine. Remember, the 600 TTV12 is a detuned Maybach engine so, RennTech is just getting it back up to the Maybach specs plus more so, the steps taken aren't as steep as they might appear and well within the design of the engine...but, the step up in performance is phenominal!!

SL65 Transmission Computer

I was back at RennTech a few weeks ago adding the trunk spoiler and the boys traded my CL65 Transmission Computer for the SL65 Transmission Computer. Supposedly there are some minor differences but, no one seemed to know. Seimens had the software so, might as well. Personally, I don't feel any difference and she's still an awesome ride!!!

It certainly shows that the SL65 now exists. One more question from me: does the CL/SL65 transmission computer give you the manual mode that the SL55 has? In other words, does M come up on the display in addition to S and C as you cycle through transmission modes. I know the SL600 doesn’t have the steering wheel buttons for manual shifting, but I think shifts in the manual mode can be made with the gearshift lever as well. I always used to drive my SL55 in the manual mode – for fun, since the automatic was just as good for performance – and would love it if Renntech’s computer would give that mode back to me in the new car.

Yes, both the CL65 and the SL65 Transmission Computer offers the "Manual Mode" and the "M" shows up on the dash.

The best guesses we had as far as Transmission Computer differences might be minor adjustments for the weight difference between the cars and possibly a program that interacts with the drop top to disengage if the car is moving or ingage if the car is stopped. The 65 computer upped the red line too but, rarely do I ever get up that high as you loose quite a bit of torque/acceloration at high revs. I also haven't tried working the top while moving/rolling.

For what it's worth it's photoshopped, not photochopped, after Adobe Photoshop, the software that does it.

for what its worth thats what people call it when they create or modify images to something they arent. photoshop being the most common prog. used.

Photochop = Photoshop enhanced image that is made into something fake.
