SL/R230: LSD? How Important is it?
I was considering purchasing a Wavetrac LSD, but I have some questions:
Is an LSD important for an SL55?
What differences will it make?
And is it worth 1095$?
Have a good weekend,

On my W220 you can feel the engine management computer retard the RPM's when the wheels lose traction and start to spin. I don't know if there is a different programming system on the more powerful SL versions but I have seen Youtube videos of those models with smoke bellowing out of both rear wheel wells on drag runs,

If your car can smoke the tires from dead stop without power braking, the LSD can be very benefitial as your electronic LSD won't try to jam the brakes on the wheel that may have less traction than the other wheel which I think is totally counter productive especially at the track.
I would rather have my mechanical LSD deliver power to both wheels without the computer interfering with my forward motion by engaging the brakes due to unequal wheelspin speed between both rear wheels and not to mention that my right rear wheel brake pads are worn down way more than my left wheel due to it being the "default" wheel that loves to break loose first under hard acceleration!
I also have an '08 Toyota Tundra with 5.7L that the factory claims it comes with "Rear Locking Differential" as standard equipment. I was VERY disappointed to find out their "Rear Locking Differential" is nothing more than an electronic LSD which utilizes the rear brakes to slow down the spinning wheel which again is VERY counter productive! Thank god the aftermarket mechanical LSD for my truck is only about $600 to buy.
