Just got a SL500 and was wondering about V1 installs. Have most people gotten them installed by the dealer or a stereo installation place? Where does everyone mount theirs? I can't stand the suction cups.
Thanks,
Jason

Had ours put in by dealer yesterday during the car make-ready. Nothing fancy, wiring is to a circuit by the dome light. Used the visor clip so I can easily remove or put the unit away when I leave the car. Don't really like the suction cup mounts, used them on our S class because of the UV coating, but always left a ring on the glass

I have the same issue with the Passport 7500. The dealer won't install it so I'm going to a local audio installer they recommended. I had the same install done on my E500 just above the rear-view mirror. They fabricated a mounting bracket and glued it to the windshield. Cost around $400.

I had the Escort SRX installed in my car last week. Two laser diffusers along with a radar detector in the front grill below the bumper and behind the metal mesh (sport package)and one laser diffuser on the rear license plate. RennTech installed my system and it took about 1.5 days as my dealer didn't offer the system. The control unit/display was mounted in the center arm glove box. The warning green/red light is mounted just under the reset button between the tach and speedometer. The speaker for the optional voice warning and alarm is mounted just forward of the parking brake pedal. I don't use the voice option but the warning alarm is more than loud enough driving at highway speeds with the top down. The mute button was mounted right next to the ride height control button left of the shifter.
The perfomance is very, very similar to my old Escort 8500 but, now no worries about it getting lifted when parking with the top down or from a bad apple valet.

I had the 8500 for two years and LOVED it! You'll have to check with Escort to get more performance data and comparisons to the 7500 but, if I were to get another dash/windshield mount unit, I'd definately get another 8500.
I think the 8500 was new two years ago and it's still the current high end dash/windshield mount available from Escort. I don't know when the 7500 was originally offered.

The quoted price on the Escort site is around $1600 but, because I requested the installer to "do it right", I paid close to $2k for the extra time. The installation was great including snaking the rear diffuser wire along the complicated wire run for the trunk which opens in both directions, a painted aluminum bar across the grill to mount the three units forward etc, etc, etc...
Escort claims a 3 hour install but, I can't imagine how that would look on one of these great cars!
