Card for keyless.

MY 2004 has integrated the keyless in the smartkey.
The old card system has been done away with.
Does anyone know if you can purchase a card for MY 2004.
Since the 2003's have them and if someone who had one lost it I'm sure they could get a replacement.
So I was just wondering if it could be done for 2004.

i dont know if you could do that, but if you were to do that, then i think it would be very costly. why would you want the card btw?

I have the older card system and would like the key system.

Anyone know if you can upgrade to the key system?

I don't think that you would be able to do it. The Keyless Go system in the car is created to interact with the "smart" device which is now linked to the key.....they would have to re-program the system to recognize another device.

I'm glad I have the card. It has a neat facility of being able to confirm the car is locked when you're away from it. The card remembers the lock status of the car when you walk away. the key does not do this and the reason they dumped the card is that the key provides backup methods of getting in if the radio link does not work.

Shouldn't be too hard, it's just like adding another key if you lost your original.

With Lexus, it'd be free.

With Mercedes, it's free, but you have labor, and then parts, and then the fee for charging you a fee and then the price of the replacement key because your replacement broke and/or didn't work. So it's around the price of a small European vehicle.

I wanted the card for my wallet.
When going to my car I carry my wallet, phone and my key.
I figured if I put the card in my wallet it would eliminate carying another item.
I was just hoping the new system was backwards compatible.
From reading threads on the forum I don't think it's possible for the 03' card carriers to have an integrated key.
I was just hoping it would be the cost of a lost card which I heard was about $150.

I have been told that the key and card both use the same electronics and therefore can be interchanged and re programmed. Of course, this would involve finding a dealer that was interested in doing the research and helping you.
