SL/R230: Help with the car complectation

Help with the car complectation
Hi all again 
So i went to the dealer today to order the remote for the Keyless Go system.
For that they required my ID and the car registration ( kinda weird but oh, well)
When the guy ran my VIN number trough the system i found out that my car does not have such a system.
Now here's the question that i have:
How is that have the "Start/Stop Engine" button on my shift knob, i have the sensors on the door for same purpose, but my car is not equipped with the system? Is that how all the base SL500 models are?
