Talking 2003 SL500 Drive

Just took our '03 SL500 demo for a ride.

What a nice car!

-Aero is very good. I am in PA, it's about 45 degrees and it was comfortable with the top down with the heat and seat heaters on.

-Extra legroom vs. the previous SL is nice (only 2 inches, but you can definetly feel it.)

-The ABC is a big plus, corners very flat and stable. I have driven the CL with the ABC but in the SL it makes more of a difference being more of a sports car that you can toss around. The ESP never kicked in on my favorite backroad test loop. (At $101K w/ 300 miles on it I didn't exactly tried to get it crossed up, but I did push it a little.)

-Hard to tell what feels different in the electronic braking but feel and response are excellent.

-A little more road noise than I expected, the car has the sport package w/ 18" wheels and I had the suspension set on the "sport" mode.. Not objectionable to me. Probably quiter with 17" wheels and the "sport" mode turnd off.

Congatulations to all of you that have one coming, what a nice car, enjoy!

Karl,

I'm about 5'10". Yes the SL is still tight for people 6' plus.
It is a shame they didn't get a little more room for the taller people among. Sounds like a CLK Cab might be a better fit for you.

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)

Keil: How tall are you?

I am 6'2" and find the new SL500 lacking in seat space comfort almost identical as the 2002 SL model in order for my body frame to feel comfortable. This car is designed for persons up to 6'.

Wish, the back would recline as the CL, CLK or Porsche!
