Sat Radio and Right Drift update
Anyone hear anything further on the Sirius Sat radio availability? Met with Jacksonville factory zone rep three weeks ago who said he had no info and would get back with me.(he has not!) He did instruct the dealership on how to fix the right drift problem, however! This was successfully, for the most part, accomplished.

On their December quarter earnings release conference call, Sirius management claimed they would be in Mercedes dealerships in March. Hard to know whether this will slip again.

I spoke to my dealer, the owner of the dealership, and he said that Sat radio will be available in March. Then again, that is when my SL is due to arrive.

I was at my dealership yesterday and they said that they installed the first one on an S class and more are coming.
BUT GET THIS: On an SL they will have to drill a whole in the trunk! He said they would put something (a receptor/antenna type of thing) that lays flat on top of the trunk, I understood it to be a flat square that will lay on top of the trunk.
This is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous! I will not have the dealer or anybody drill holes in my car to install something that should have been there from the factory. I can just imagine all the problems that will follow, besides the fact that it will look like crap.
I read on other postings that they sold the 2003 E class with the promise of a navigation system that in the end did not work and MB just bought them back and gave people 2004 replacements. Should we ask for the same thing? I'm sure the 2005 model will have a more decent setup that is concealed.
What do you think and how would one go about doing something like that?

Well, the dealer said that in the CL model they don't have to drill the whole, but in the SL they have to. I can't remember the reason. This is not good news, but I hope I'm wrong and Corey140 is right.
If anybody hears anything different please post.

Why can't they put the little antenna on the grill just in front of the windshield just like the AC sun sensor. Or incorporate it into the same area of the mirror that houses the rain sensor. I guess we could tape it to the back window, that would look good too.
Remember what the SL did when they first had to use the high brake light? This can't look that bad.

Hi Richard,
It was the Beverly Hills dealer. The guy said that they're trickling in and they installed it on an S class last week. The SL kits should arrive this week or next.

Bad news
Autospies.com is reporting that Sirius radio may not make it to Mercedes until the Fall and they are even saying there is a problem that may prevent from ever being installed in cars with nav.

BMW has the same problem
I just confirmed that the BMW 545s with navigation also cannot accept Sirius radio at this time. They are estimating October, 2004 before they might have something.
My Mercedes dealer told me that Mercedes vehicles with Command similarly will not accept Sirius radio until the Fall.

SAT Antenna Mounting
Rumour has it that a number of SAT systems have been installed on the west coast, and one my be able to order a system via an "emergency" install through the MB parts system.
Does anyone with the Sirious have pictures of the antenna mounting? I'm now debating whether to add the system to my car without seeing what the mounting options are.
What options might there be if MB decides to integrate the antenna in future models?

The antenna installs on the underside of the trunk lid, between the trunk lid and the liner. That is why I didn't post a picture of the antenna, there is none to see. It makes for a very clean installation. I think this is only the case on a few mercedes models (mine is a 2004 CLK cab W209).
I was very pleasantly surprised to see that the antenna was hidden, becuase I too was apprehensive about an unattractive antenna installed on the trunk lid of the car.

I am still waiting to hear from my dealer. He did tell me that mine had been ordered. Hopefully, my 04 SL also has an aluminum trunk and the installation will be invisable. i will post as soon as I know more.

Sat radio for SL
My dealer now says he has the parts to do an install for sat radio on my SL500. He said that he will drill a hole on the rear trunk lid to mount the antenna. I told him no way, find another method and I am still waiting to hear what he comes up with.

Is there no alternative?
Anyone discover a way to install the antenna without drilling a hole in the deck lid of the SL? I don't get it, if the car is meant to be satellite radio ready, then why didn't Mercedes integrate the antenna into the already ugly GPS thingy?

I am going for it
I am installing sat radio on Thursday. My dealer says they will install the antenna underneath the rear deck and it will not be visible from the outside. Cost is somewhere in the neighborhood of $700 for the part before installation. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow.
