2003 SL500 Brake Noise
Just a little memo for new SL owners. If you hear a groaning/squeaking noise from the brakes are activated, there's a way to fix that in your own driveway. No need to take it in for service. The noise may go away on it's own after about 50 miles on the odometer, but in case it doesn't, follow these steps.
-The vehicle has to be running, and at a standstill.
-Apply the brake pedal at least 25mm, but no more than 50mm and then release the brake pedal but only to the 25mm position.
-Repeat brake application in this manner at a rate of 1.5 to 2 applications per second.
-You must achieve 30 to 40 brake applications per attempt.
-Check to see if the noise is gone by using the brakes in a normal manner.
-If the noise is still there, repeat the above process.
It sounds a little awkward at first, but once you get a rhythm going, it's easy to do.
Good luck.

...and after all these years
Your post reminded me of my experience at the factory in Singelfingen to pick up a European Delivery Mercedes years ago. Two of us picked up identical cars. On one the brakes squealed. The factory technician told us about 50% of the new cars had noisy brakes and 50% didn't. He also commented that there was no real explanation as to why some did and some did not, but assured us that there was nothing wrong with the brakes.

Ya gotta love it!
What do you expect with a purchase of an automobile that costs almost as much as a median home in the continental USA?
These little tricks and twists are why they call em' SPORTS cars, 'SPORT'!
hehehehehehhehehe
Hey anyone heard about a ceramic pad for this new brake system?
Come to think of it what are pad costs for this beast anyway, they are huge!
