First oil change at 1000 miles?

I need to get your expert opinion on the first oil change and subsequent ones.

A friend of mine who always buys Mercedes told me he always has his car's first oil change after 1,000 miles.

I really don't care about spending the money to do this, in fact, I did that in my last Mercedes. I also have the oil changed every 5,000 miles, rather than the 10,000 miles suggested by the computer.

I realize this might be too often for some people.

My questions are:

1) Could I possibly be doing anything wrong by doing this? In other words could the car benefit somehow by not doing it so often or not doing it right after the initial 1,000 miles?

2) If I ask the dealer not to reset the computer (so that at 10,000 I get the free one) would that do any harm to the car at all?

Thank you for your informed opinion.

I always change my oil during the first 1500 miles on a new car. MB and others have said that it doesn't make any difference but, for me, it's a peace of mind. According to the "experts" MB does a ver good job of flushing out their engines before the assembly line. Typically, I'll also change my oil every 4K -5k or so miles and not reset the computer depending on my driving habits; more city driving, more often I change the oil, more highway, less often I change the oil.
