Lower engine cover

Any thoughts on whether removing the lower engine cover(belly pan) would help move out some heat; while heat rises I wonder if it will help circulate some air? Or will it hurt air flow through the radiator?

I suspect that the cover affords many benefits-my guess is damage control and on older diesels, it's noise control.
