2004 Radio/Amp problem
My first post, but, have been following for a while. I wonder if anyone can help -- dealer has been clueless!
Randomly, radio (Command) will not produce sound. (Mute switch OK) All functions on radio head work, except no volume. I have to shut down ignition and remove key to cut power to radio. Usually, after a re-start volume is back. This can happen once in a month or twice in a day; but is typically a dozen or more start-stops apart.

Do you have a CD changer? If so, the next time this happens, see if you can play a disc in it. If the COMAND says there is no CDC connected, or no CD found, then it's a problem in the fiber optic system. It could be a problem in the fiber itself, or it could be a device on the loop that is malfunctioning. If the CDC works, then it's a bad amp.

Thanks for the prompt reply; and I regret my delayed response. Must be the amp, from your comments. Hasn't occurred again since my post, but, it will. This has been going on for two years. Dealers (two) can only come up with re-programming something and it has never made any difference. Sooner or later, the problem re-occurs.

Strangely enough, some of these issues are resolved by 're-booting' the car.
Had the same issue with my C32 Comand, disconnected the battery for 10 minutes, booted back up, and all electrical Gremlins removed.
