Rear Window Replacement for a 2004 SL55AMG
I get water in the boot and was trying to replace the seal (between window and trunk) of the rear / back window when I discovered that the metal underneath the seal was rotted (rust).
It seems the only way to repair that is to replace the entire window / glass component. A new OEM part cost about $2,600 but I see some used ones on Ebay for about $300.
My question is how difficult is it to replace that window?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty easy task. I removed my rear window in order to peel off the tint which had bubbled.
First - prop the top open with a 12" long 2x4 in the center.
Remove the trim both sides by snapping off the clips. They will likely need to be glued back on.
Disconnect the wires to the defroster glass.
Find the 2 bolts each side of the rear glass at the hinge, and loosen them up.
Get a helper to hold one side while you remove the nuts/bolts. Then switch sides and remove the other bolts.
Slide your window out toward the rear and replace in reverse.
Probably an hour round trip.
Good luck!

Could this be the issue? The WIS instructions are in document AR67.20-P-3000R. There are some additional instructions for adjustments in the document. I just don't know if they apply.
