central A/C vent operation

A minor problem I have noticed is my driver's side central A/C vent does not close completely when turning the adjustment wheel for vent opening. It opens fine but does not close completely. Passenger side works fine. Looking closely it appears the "paddle" may be not positioned on the drive motor the same as the passenger side, i.e., it opens too much, closes too little. Is this possible? Only notice this when needing heat, no problem with A/C and I can bypass the problem altogether using a flip up of the manual knob on the front of the assembly. However, if I could, with a simple adjustment and not tear the whole dash apart, fix it right I would. Has anyone gotten into the vent assembly and paddle operations? I wonder if a repair was made previously and reassembly was not done properly. Or perhaps I have a weak motor turning the vent paddle?
