Changing from Mph to Kph speedometer needle goes out

Hi everyone thanks for letting me join your forum
I have a 2004 sl500, My car is setup like this.
Odometer is in miles, my speedometer indicator says mph also, However my Speedometer needle reads in Kph.

My problem is when that when i change the speedo/odmeter from miles to Kmph, the speedometer needle jumps up about 40% out of whack.
For example I will be doing 50kph and whilst driving I will change the display from miles to km via menu and the speedometer needle will jump up to about 80kph even though i am still doing the same speed.

I took the car to a star diagnostic specialist and he could not work out what was going on.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Kmancass

I think it is working how it should. 50mph = 80kmh. If you are traveling at 50mph with the settings set to miles and you then change the settings to kilometres the needle now shows your speed in kilometres per hour which will be 80!

Speedo scale

Hi,
living in a metric world, my speedo is usually set at kmh. When we hopped over to England, I swapped to mph. The speed numbers being printed, ‘hardware’, that results in a speedometer with a max speed of 260 mph. Nice! 😋
Question if I may: what happens in a car in mph country, when switching over to kmh?

In the US models this selection is disabled, so you cannot switch to kmph. At least I did not find a way to do so. It may be possible using SDS, but not through in car controls.
