NO LONGER ACTIVE
It could be the button. DO you get any messages on the MFD when you press the button? If not, then it is the button. If you get a message like "key not detected", then it's a KeylessGo issue.

Check out the W211 subforum, it could be a well known problem with a wire coming out of the shifter being chafed. I had that on my 211 10 years ago.
