Too big for SL55 AMG
Hi all,
Yesterday I bought an 2004 SL55, I am 6-3 and I feel very cramped in the car, I did not really test the car prior purchasing since it was from out of state and I always wanted to buy one, I feel like I need about 5-7" more space.
What options do I have? I see 2-3" behind the seat when its all the way back. Are there any seat upgrade options where I can install smaller/thinner seats? I really love this car but I cannot just drive like this.
Thanks

I'm 6'5" and more or less understand you, but I'm pretty fit, so don't feel being as small of a car. The problem that I have is let room, almost no space between my legs and wheel bit when I wear a warm coat it does feel pretty smaller. Didn't think at all about doing the seat swap, since don't have that problem at all in the summer

The standard SL seats have sensor which limit the amount of recline available as you move the seat rearward (as I'm sure you've figure out). So moving to a seat that was less 'intelligent' would probably buy you a little more real estate. About the only option I can think of would be to swap in the seats from an SLK (which BTW are the very same seats in the Chrysler Crossfire)
.
You'd of course lose the seat massagers, as well as the functionality of the base seat cushion being able to move fore/aft independent of the seat rail position. Also, the issue of the seat sensors would have to be dealt with if moving to alternative seats since the car knows if either of the seats is occupied or not and will throw error codes if simply left unplugged.

I'm 6'2' and fit quite well. I have the seat more reclined than most people. Back when i worked at the dealership, I drove a lot of cars and the SL was one of the most comfortable to me. The SLK was way too small. And the S didn't have enough headroom.

Thank you guys for all you comments.
a friend of mine who is exactly same height as me fits perfectly, problem is my legs seems to be longer than usually compare to upper side of my body.
for example I ride 61-62cm bike while same height friend rides 58cm bike. Whenever he drives one of my cars he moves seat forward and I move his seat back.
is there anyway to alter the program for seat to move it a bit further down? I mean recline the seat a bit more? I see that there is a little bit of room in the back but seats stops right there.
