SL/R230: Help!! SL55 AMG intermittent STALLING
This is the picture of the little quitter that caused all the headaches, it costs around £120 from Mercedes. I have been driving the car all day yesterday, and the problem is solved !
The part is too rusted to get an part number, but I think it may be Valve - Mercedes-Benz (230-476-03-32-64). it is found near the petrol tank, and my Indie had to remove one exhaust back box, then the drive shaft, to get to it.

Can you list all the parts you changed that sorted the problen out. I know you mentioned one valve but can you also show me, name other parts.
Im not technical and just want to order them so don't know what to order.

Here is where the first major problem comes up: the fuel regulator P/N 230-476-03-32 is shown as discontinued as is 230-476-03-32-64 and no substitution is available. Has anyone else run into this and what was the solution? Pelican showed it as available, but I had them check and they also say no longer available.
I'm not sure how the system is supposed to operate. I'm thinking that the pump speed is controlled to control system pressure and the pressure regulator is just used as a kind of relief valve. Regular SL500's have a pressure regulating filter and no pump controller or pressure sensor. I'm debating between an aftermarket regulator or an SL500 style filter. DAS says system pressure should be about 4 bar, same as a base SL500, but I'm not sure that is correct. SL55 pump controllers are labeled 5 bar. Any fuel system experts out there?
My suggestion would be to write an email to Mercedes Germany Head office, if you cannot get any joy from UK. Also may be worth trying other countries such as USA, Poland, etc..
I cannot see them stopping this part, without an replacement or upgraded part.
Please report on here if you get any joy.

Perfect, since I changed it I haven’t had any problems any more. It was very tricky to do the job. I had to remove the left muffler, no problem at all. I couldn’t take the drive shaft out, so I managed to change the regulator with the driveshaft in place, very, very difficult because you don’t have space non even to have a look at the regulator. People with small hands have a clear advantage.
i want to thank people that post these topics because it makes everything so much easier and by the way, saves you lots of $$$$!
Thank you so much, Ingo

I ended up twisting off one of the ABC bleeders and couldn't get the quick coupler on that side to even rotate. That was probably good because it would be stupid to leave 20 year old strut lines in when it is a 10 min. job to replace them at this point. I pulled the rear valve block to bleed the strut line (since the bleeder was frozen), so I will also rebuild the valve block, replace the rear accumulator, and at least put in the rear pressure line and the high pressure feed line from the pulsation dampener. I'm also ordering new fuel lines and, of course, replacing the fuel filter. All of that appears original too, filter included. I will end up spending close to $1k in parts, but this would probably be an $8k dealer job.
I swear that everything under the car is in pristine condition EXCEPT the parts that you need to remove. Not a hint of rust on the underbody, but bleeder screws and couplers are rusted, strut bolts were rusted, fuel regulator is rusted badly. They were about 90% of the way there on corrosion protection, but missed on the stuff that matters.
I am getting ready to pull the rear subframe soon. Here's my checklist:
Replace rear ABC pressure lines
Replace rear ABC strut lines
Replace fuel filter
Replace fuel pressure regulator
Replace rear strut boots if necessary
Replace rear axle seals if necessary
Replace rear suspension bushings if necessary.
Did I miss anything important that should be changed 'while I'm down there?'
Thanks

I think your SL500 has a pressure regulating filter, not a separate pressure regulator.
