ABC Pulsation Dampner Blown
Hello, thought I'd share some info:
2009 SL550
Symptoms: whining noise driving or turning wheel
Problem: ruptured ABC pulsation dampner
Dealer replaced for $1506.
Labor $972
Part $446
Hydraulic oil $34 (bled ABC system)
Solvent $8
Plus tax
Luckily I had 3rd party warranty, so only paid a deductible, less than price of parts, even through parts.com
The job looks like a reasonable diy type, so well worth the savings to buy the part at $400+/- and install yourself.
....in case you're looking at the same repair and wondering what the dealer's bill might be like....

Wow, that's very low miles for that failure. It was probably a defective part to begin with. While these dampeners do have a finite lifespan, they should last 50K miles or more. Many go over 100K with no issues.

10 years/100k is about the life expectancy. the rubber diaphragm deteriorates both as a function of use and time. i'd guess the other 3 accumulators aren't too far behind or may already be bad. the return line accumulator going bad is hard to diagnose. the other 2 on the valve blocks are also a bit tricky as one can usually cover up to some extent the failure of another for awhile. before your warranty expires i'd get them all replaced.

Actually I was thinking the same thing. The price of both is somewhere near $300 from r..european which are Corteco brand. Any experience with this brand?
