Mercedes Luggage for 2004 SL600

Has anyone purchased the Mercedes SL luggage? Is it worth the $570 Mercedes charges for it?

By the way, I finally got around to posting pictures of my 2004 Mercedes SL600. Sorry, I've been busy at work.

I now have over 1700 miles on my SL and I like it better every day. I recently applied "Zaino" to my car and it does make the paint look better than new. This summer I plan to drive it from Houston, Texas to California on a long site seeing trip. Any suggestions for sites to see along the way?

Cool SL Luggage--

SL Luggage

$370.00
B66954241
Custom designed to fit neatly onto the rear shelf of the SL-Class, this finely crafted bag features a surprising amount of storage capacity. Roomy main compartment features double zip for easy access and two zippered interior pockets. For a sleeker line, the zip collar extends beyond the end of the bag and fastens to the sides with magnets. Soft nappa leather and nylon. 32"L x 13"D x 12" H.

IF you mean this luggage for $370.00------YES, I have it and use it on most trips. It holds a lot; however, it can get quite heavy to lift out and carry--Very nice luggage--fits neatly and securely into position in the SL 500 GIFF

I bought two of them and they are fine, slightly odd shape but they do make the most of the space available. For a long trip, pretty much indispensible and you can use the luggage straps to fashten it down; not so much to stop it moving while the car is but more to reduce (but not eliminate) the chance of it being stolen if you park with the roof down. Personally, I would have preferred a deep lockable cubby.

It's also worth taking detailed measurements of the trunk and buying exact bags to match; if you buy one which is eaxactly the size of the floor of the trunk and another to fill the space above it and below the roof divider, it's amazing how much you can pack in.

giffSCPA,
I contacted 3 dealerships in Houston, TX and they all said the price of the SL luggage is wrong in MB website. They said it is supposed to be $570 instead of $370. Maybe I need to contact the MB website directly and see if they would sell it for $370. Sounds like the luggage is very useful.

blueSL,
Did you buy any luggage for the trunk based on the exact measurements? If so, what brand did you buy. Was it soft sided or hard luggage?

Thanks guys for the information,

I bougth two soft rectangular bags with exactly the right dimensions. If you close the roof divider, you can see how you can have one bag which covers pretty much the whole floor area of the trunk with a second smaller bag sat on top which takes account of the reduced width imposed by the roof divider.

I searched long and hard and eventually found what I was looking for at a discount store selling every conceivable variety. The ones I got are not the best quality, are unbranded but will never be subject to the rigours of airport handling for example.

BTW, I think $570 is obscene for the M-B bag. I paid £230 + tax each which is about $380.

Ordered SL Luggage from MB Accessories Website

I just ordered the SL Luggage from the MB Accessories Website and they did not show a change in price (i.e. they indicated that they will charge me $370 + tax and shipping). However, they did say that they are out of stock and on back order. I hope that does not mean they will raise the price once it is back in stock.

Bought mine new on ebay, $338, came in original box, wrapping, with mb tags and instruction sheet (says "put on back shelf, secure with straps in 7 languages!)

holds more than you would think..

pretty much a must buy.

Cool SL Luggage purchase and USES!

I bought mine- referenced near start of this thread- on the web, for the price on the MB web site; right after they first became available - about 20 + months ago. I do find it very usefull in two very different ways:

A. filled with lots of regular luggage, as you would put stuff into a regular "suit case" on long trips; and

B. for daily driving --around town driving, nice to keep in place, and put suit coats, and other things in it w/o wrinkling; caps; brief bags, etc.; sort of hides misc. stuff in the cabin, and to avoid the usual cabin clutter!

It is relatively easy to open and close w/o removing from the secure, strapped position.
