I have a 2005 SL500 (top pictures). The grill leans back more than I like and I want the grill to stand straighter like the newer models, which means I will have to get some custom parts or fabrication work done to extend the hood and whatever else needs to be done to achieve the look I want (like the grill in the picture at the bottom). Anybody have any ideas or suggestions on how to get this done? Thanks

Do you like the 09-12 r230 front end? that is a fairly straight forward swap.

There is at least one aftermarket body kit for the r230 that gives it an r231 style nose, using the 13-15 r231 headlamps
