2011 sl 550R AMG , with remote closing assist trunk lift shocks replacement
If anyone has a 2011 SL, with the remote assist closing the process is a little harder the as new struts have to be compressed to install them, couldn't do it without the clamp.
I used a 24" heavy duty 600 lbs. from Dewalt at Home Depot to compress them. Make sure you get the one with the extra large surface and not the one with the swivel on one end. You can "Borrow the clamp, as in buy it and return it after" , you only need it for 10 min.Prop the trunk or have someone hold the truck up , take one out . install the bottom part 1st and them the top part by compressing the top of the struts, compress them from one of the moving metal arms that lift the trunk and not the bottom of the new strut.
