window drop down and tinting

Folks
my window tinter is going to redo the tint on my 03 SL500 and we are trying to work out how to get the window to return to the top once the door is open.
Or let me put it another way....when you open the door the window drops down 1/4 inch and when you close the door it goes back to the full closed position.
So when my guy tries to put the film on we need the window to be in the full up position..... now usually you just rotate the door latch assembly around manually using your finger with the door open so it thinks it closed and the windows return to the fully closed position but no this is not working...what am I missing.

There is a plunger switch on the B pillar, just below the door strike. Press it in and hold it to keep the glass raised.

I will say it has been a while since I had tinted windows. I don't have them on the SL since it's enough of a cop-magnet already without anything extra to attract attention. The last shop I used actualyl remove the door panel to get the tint secured to the glass below them.

I need to re-tint my front too, my car was from Florida so it had 20% tint all around, i can't see anything and VA cops are a bunch of bored people that'll pull you over for anything. During my Honda days i've paid enough ticket money to the state to feed 20 inmates for life.

I had a BMW X3 that just didn't have very dark factory tint on the back windows. Our tint laws for SUVs and trucks is that the any windows behind the B-pillar can be as dark as you want. So, the tint shop guy talked me into "limo tint" on those, and the "nearly legal" on the front side windows AND the windshield. It was totally illegal - the side window tint was 1% too dark, and it's illegal to add tint to the windshield, but contrasting with the super-dark rear window tint, it looked "normal" for an SUV. Even when I was pulled over for traffic violations, nothing was ever said about the tint. And it was really nice not to have to wear sunglasses when driving.

For the SL (and my former CLK cabriolet), I just don't see the need for tint. I drive with the top down most of the time anyhow. And like I said, our local-yocal cops just love to pull over people in nice cars to harass them. I do 80-90mph on the open freeways and between my Escort detector and Waze, i never get pulled over. Around town, I follow the speed limit and diligently heed all signals and signs. I am especially careful on residential streets and in parking lots. Yet I still get pulled over by the locals about once a month. Often, they claim I failed to signal on a lane change or turn (which I always do and shut them down when I ask to see the video). Other times, they claim I "took off too fast", which I don't (I don't like paying for tires more often than I have to). Like I said, they just like to harass people in nice cars. Our local bedroom police departments are all pretty corrupt and fund their coffers with traffic fines. So, I just don't tint or do exhaust work or customizations that would draw any extra attention.
