SL/R230: 2003 R230 Comand Radio swap

2003 R230 Comand Radio swap
Can I put another Comand radio in my R230 to replace one that has lost its screen? I think the radio is coded for a particular VIN so I would NOT be able to change from one car to the other. Has anyone done this or do they know the procedure if it is done. I'm afraid the dealer would not support changing out a radio that they didn't sell. Thanks

Thanks so much Rudeney...... Just took the plunge... I'll share the results. Now I need the latest CD update for my rig in Region 9. Do you have any suggested links?

2017 X166 GLS550 & (R230) SL550 2007 & 2012 S550
just make sure you get comand from same year & model as you are replacing. they are interchangeable only from same model and year
i.e. can't take a S500 comand and use in a SL550
