air conditioning problems

I have a problem with my 2004 R230 350SL. I have tried to turn on the air con, pressed switch in control console climate control and the light started flashing. After reading the hand book it said that the refrigeration was low and the pump had turned off. I took the car today to a local air con specialist, together with my 2006 ML and thought I would have both gassed up. The ML was no problem, but the SL would not gas up. The system held pressure OK but would not accept any refrigeration. I bought a new AGM battery as I thought the problem might have been low voltage in the consumer batter but no difference as it still would not charge up the air con. There are also no fault codes showing.
Any ideas please
Dave

You wasted allot of money listening to that sheep herder, battery what a joke!---sounds like you have a faulty compressor clutch which will produce a fault but you can read the module with out MB diagnostics or equal------get smart find someone with the diagnostics.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
FYI, the compressor does not use a "clutch" - it's an internal swash plate that can vary the refrigerant pressure based on demand. Of course that could be bad, or you could have a bad dryer or a bad expansion valve.
