A couple of comments. While the Eisenmann exhaust did not significantly increase the noise level, it did make a noticeable performance improvement. The car accelerates more quickly without any “turbo” lag. You can hear more engine noise at higher RPM’s, especially with the top down, but it is still not as loud as I would like it to be. The guys at Carnutz suggest that I have the 2 kidney shaped resonators removed that are located about midway back in the exhaust system below the passenger compartment. They made this modification to an S600 this week and they said is sounds great.
The car still rides great with the 20 inch rims. I agonized over 19’s vs. 20’s, but after driving one with 20’s I easily made my decision. Yesterday, a business associate of mine commented about how smooth the car ride even with the 20’s.

I really wanted a convertible. I have only put about 700 miles on the SL, so I am still getting used to it. I like the extra power and torque of the V-12 engine. The CL was almost too refined for my taste. The SL is a little more fun to drive. I know that sounds a little vague, but I am not sure how else to put it. The SL feels more like a sports car. I had an 01 Porsche 996 TT before the CL55 so I know how a sports car drives and handles. The CL felt more like a luxury car. The SL falls somewhere in between. I do not feel like the SL600 is step backwards in quality like others have commented when comparing the CL55 to the SL55. I owned the CL for almost 1 year. I have never driven an SL55. I did put about 300 miles on my SL before the RennTECH upgrades. Those upgrades do make a noticeable improvement as others have posted. I think I will be happy with this car for quite a while.

How wide are the rims?

Wow, usually its just the large spoke wheels that look good on the SL, but they look excellent. The car looks like it was lowered a fair bit, not sure if its the lowering, the wheels or both. Looks great, enjoy.

The rims are 9.5 inches wide in front and 10.5 wide in the rear. BBS does make an 8.5 inch wide 20 inch rim, but they don't import it to the US. The 8.5 inch wide rim is the proper size for the 255/30 front tires, but the 9.5's do work.

You can purchase the rims through Inden Design in Europe and they do have the 8.5 X 20 inch rims. They have numerous photo of SL's with those rims at their web site:
