SL/R230: I need help!!

No direct knowledge to share but considering how little the Hood cable opening mechanisms are used, one would think they should last easily two lifetimes. If you have pulled the lever full open and still the hood won't pop up, you have a slack condition caused by a failed anchor or a broken cable section. You will probably have to go through the grill and unlock each side manually if access is available. I'm sure you are not the only one in the world to ever have this problem so there must be a simple solution somewhere. Start with the dealer and see what they say short of bringing the car in.
Please post back your success story as this is an interesting topic.
Good luck,
Bob

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
Seems like a dumb suggestion but worked for me: slowly/gently push back the lever in the cabin. Wiggle a bit to get max retreat of the mechanism. Then pull decisively but slow. Mine popped up and readjustment was made.

I know this is too late, but the way to get the hood open when the cabin handle won't work is to remove the fender shrouds. You can then use a wire to hook onto the latches an pop them open.
