03 SL500 garage door opener
Ok, alot of info to be read but no working answers. Here is the question, 03 sl500, newer liftmaster 8365LM security+ 2.0 opener, are the frequencies compatable or do i need to purchase homelink compatability bridge? Read everything here nothing working. Really would like to use the button on the mirror. Thx.

You will probably need a bridge if the Homelink won't learn the opener's remote. If it does learn the opener's remote and only works once, then it's just a rolling code style and you'll need to press a button on the OPENER itself, then press the learned Homelink button to sync it.

I only managed to pair the mirror after having held the transmitter in many (I do mean many) trial and error positions near the mirror. Use fresh battery in transmitter, hold very close and don’t give up too easily. Works flawlessly now.

Yes it can be very frustrating. You are of course aware that you can (should) adjust the appropriate country code before you start pairing.

There are three types of garage door tranceiver systems in use: Analog, analog + rolling code, and digital. Homelink only works with the two analog systems. The old style analog has no rolling code, so all you have to do is "teach" a Homelink button from your opener's original remote. The analog + rolling code is the same, but requires and additional step, which is one the Homelink button has been "taught" you have to sync the codes with the opener, usually by pressing a button on the opener itself, then pressing the Homelink button. Homelink is not compatible with the newer digital systems. These will require an adapter on the opener, which basically talks "analog" to it. Many remote control driveway gates and home alarm systems also use these digital transmissions, and that's why they can't be learned by Homelink.

Some day someone should come up with plug and play sets for us poor oldie drivers. A digital garage door transmitter, a practical modern head unit for the dash, better speakers etc. I suspect people would be prepared to pay ugly amounts of money for them.
