Restyling Mercedes SL R230
Hello friends.
I have a Mercedes SL350 R230 2006 year before restyling.
I am thinking to do just only the front restyling that is to say:
- headlights
-front bumper
-bonnet
- 2 side fenders
-fog lights
I have the next questions:
- is there in the market a kind of kit (not genuine of Mercedes) that be cheaper than the same original parts of Mercedes?
- regarding the mounting, is just plug and play? or it is neccessary modify something..
- in addition to the parts above mentioned, it is necessary further parts for example, supports for the headlights, plastic covers for the from bumper and so on... do you have the complete list of neccesary parts?
Really i like reform cars ( i have done it several times in the past, even with motorbikes). It is thrue that is a waste of time and money but i really like. Because of that the reason of this topic.
Thanks in advance for your time and help

You will need the entire bumper - everything, including the energy absorbing components, brackets, fog lights, grilles, etc. I believe parts of the lower engine cover are also different. My advice would be to buy a donor car, say one with severe rear end damage. Even then, after paintwork, you'll probably still spend more you would just trading your car for a slightly newer one.

Thanks for your help Rudeney.
I know it is going to be difficult and expensive but if somebody did this restayling, please tell us all the needed parts.
Best regards!

I'll just comment that Mercedes designers were forced to make the MY2009 styling changes to meet pedestrian safety regulations. Absent those regulations it seems likely they would have left the look of the car alone. I think you should too.

Thanks

Rod is right. I would consider a body kit instead of using OEM parts. Start by searching sites such as this one.

i have a further question: my headlights are xenon, (not bi-xenon) so in order to be compatible the new restyling headlights must be xenon as well (not bixenon). The connectors and the electrical installation is the same so i would be just plug & play?

I don't think you are going to get what you want from the forum. You should probably get your own copy of SDS which includes WIS and EPC so you can lookup the parts you will need.

SDS = Star Diagnosis System, a.k.a. Xenry or DAS. Look at trading sites like Alibaba or DHGate. You'll see them called "C3" or "C4" I think Bobterry999 recently posted a link to a setup he liked.

Many thanks for your answer.
i am a little bit stuck with this project. I would prefer Oem restyling parts (sl 63 amg or just restyling parts from sl350 or Sl 500) but oem restyling parts are not easy no find on internet. Is just ebay for this kind of purchases?
after i have the opcion of buy a external restyling kit. But in this event i am afraid that parts do not fit properly. Do you know a good quality kit?

Since you are really wanted an updated style car, with the bumpers, headlights and even the steering wheel, have you considered selling yours and buying a MY2009+ with what you want? It would probably be much less expensive.

Somedoby knows what is necessary in order to install the facelift restyling headlights?
I have read regarding it on internet but i still have not it clear.
It is said that i will need:
- new plugs (specifically, 2 new plugs)
- and make some changings in pionout of current plugs acoording to a defined electrical diagram that i still have not.
Somebody know part number of the plugs, electrical diagram and what tasks are necessary to do?
And finally which part numbers of headlights i need? My oem headlights are bixenon without bend lighting.
Any bixenon headlight would fit in my car?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards

Completely agree!! I bought my 05 because it had a much better looking face even though the command radio/ Bluetooth sync issue is annoying-put your efforts to updating the tech and don’t mess with yours if you don’t have any damage😁😁
