Cracked Windshield
Folks,
I cracked my '03 SL500 windshield last week driving back from the USGP. My local MB dealer is quoting me $1300/400 for parts/labor.
Anybody have any rates to compare this against, or maybe suggest a quality national company to do the work? I know my dealer will do a good job, which is important, but wondering about the price.
Thanks!

Do you have insurance on your car? In FL I believe the insurance company covers the cost of windshield damage repairs... not sure about Georgia, though.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Replacing a windshield is one of those jobs, like replacing tyres, where I would tend to go to a specialist rather than an MB dealer. It's glued in position and replacing it needs an element of craftsmanship which is simply not required for run-of-the-mill maintenance of your car. It wouldn't surprise me if the dealer would sub-contract the work to a specialist anyway.
Here in the UK, windshield replacement is standard for all car insurance, you pay the first £60 ($110) and they take care of the rest, it's a good deal.

I would think that the MB dealer would be better in Florida since it is a right to work state, ie, certain profession posses no certifications and/or regulation what so ever.

Most dealerships sub the work out. I know my MB dealership along with Landrover does here in AZ. They told me who they used and I had them come out to the house and watched them like a hawk. (It was the same company for both.)Most insurance policies cover windsheild replacement. If yours does not, add it to your policy. Its very cheap. There is usually a 30 day wait.
