Extended Warranty Thoughts?
Hi Everyone!
I've recently purchased '09 SL550 and thought I should join the forum!
It's super good to be driving another MB. It's a way more classic than my other bmws..
I couldn't resist buying it out for the classic design.
Inspection was clean except a minor idler pulley noise. However, now that I'm owning 9 years old car, it is actually bothering me that it can break anytime. (even thought it only has 24000 miles on it.)
So, I've been looking into the extended warranty option.
I've got a quote for Fidelity Platinum for
3 year 36,000 miles $250 deductible = $4200
4 year, 48000 miles $250 ded = $5900
5 year, 60k miles $250 deductible = $7300
I am not sure if it'll be a good investment as I'm not driving the car much. (possibly 6k miles per year)
Does anyone have an advise for the extended warranty?
It also would be really nice if you can share dealers who offers a good number for an extended warranty!!

Get the warranty for peace of mind and then go enjoy that car. I sure love mine!

I bought my 2011 with 53k miles in January. I bought a three year, unlimited mile warranty through E Auto Warranty with a $200 deductible for $2,400. I made sure it covered the ABC suspension and roof mechanism. I also verified that I can have the work done at my MB dealer. So, check them out. Also, negotiate with them. My first quote was 3k. I let them know I was shopping two other companies and they lowered it $600.

Did you purchase the warranty at the time of your purchase?

I did not buy it through the dealer, if that is what you mean. I started the research and decided and made a deal on one before i purchased the car. I then called them while driving the car home and completed the deal over the phone.

First, they may or may not cover a 10+ year old car, even though you'll get tons of spam calls and emails offering you an extended warranty. Second, how much do you drive each year? 36k would last me less than two years. Understand, that if you file a claim for something insignificant, that may prevent you from cancelling and getting a refund.
Lastly, how much work can you do yourself? If you are not mechanically inclined, perhaps you should have gone with a Honda (not trying to be snarky, just realistic). These cars are actually pretty easy to work on if you have the right tools. That brings me to my really last point, regardless how much you paid, you should plan on spending another $1000 to $3000 on special tools. (The $3000 number includes a dual post garage lift. The $1000 includes a cloned SDS and miscellaneous hand tools.)
