Rubber Boot Help

HELP !!! I need help identifying a part that just showed up beneath the undercarriage of my SL500. Actually, half was under the car and the other half was lying in the driveway. I'll do my best to describe it.....it looks like a boot of some sort, it's made of black rubber, round, about 5-6" in diameter, 3" wide, and seems to have a conical shape of some sort. Obviously, the rubber is all dried out and it appears the entire thing just disintegrated from age. Any ideas, suggestions, or answers would be greatly appreciated.

Conical in shape at that size sounds like a rear axle boot.

Thanks for your help....with that suggestion, I went crawling around under the rear axle and discovered two deteriorating ABC strut boot dust covers. Any idea how difficult it is to replace those???

I have no personal experience, but here is a link to a post discussing replacement. Apparently the clamp require a special tool for removal? https://mbworld.org/forums/sl55-amg-...trut-boot.html

And here is a source for the part. Apparently they weren't available separately until the past year, so looks like you're in luck.
