ABC pump pulley

System works great, no known issues at the moment.

One think puzzles me though;
Some time there is a small but visible vibration on the ABC pump pulley

Any ideas?

Check the welds, those outer rings are known to break off and go bouncing around in there

Thanks for your input knowbenz.
Maybe the car is giving me my first hint. I’ll look at the replacement. Is just I heard they’re hard to detach with the pump in the car.
Haven’t done that yet so I don’t know.🤔

Not really. you can put more tension on belt to break bolts loose. Or use a long screwdriver between two of the bolts and loosen the third. Or use a strong air ratchet to break them loose.

Have you considered evaluating the performance of the pulsation dampener? Yours is mounted in the driver side wheel well (2007 and later it’s mounted on the pump). The sound is my clue, humming whine at idle to 2k rpm. Same as mine was until I replaced the dampener. It’s more of an age thing my car has 27k miles, 12years old. This forum and other sources have replacement procedures if you want to learn more.

Thanks guys,
I’ve been busy digging in the dirt. Just got some new plants and I had to organize some space. Just love to see them grow and mature.
Now back to the ABC. I got the new pulley coming. As for the pulsation dampener, why I haven’t changed that yet? Because it looked good. Which I learned later means nothing. Membrane can look good and leak at the same time. Sounds like a next project.

I’m just short of tightening the damper but before I do I got a question for those who have done it already.
I notice there is a tiny pin on top of the body where the damper goes in. What is the purpose of it?
Pick is coming in a minute.

What's the purpose of that pin on the body?

I am not an expert but have experience in hydraulic systems. My advice Leave the pin alone. I am not positive but it appeared to me that it was a trigger mechanism from the pump when at very high pressure and it triggers the dampener to absorb the higher pressure and not send it into the hose and valve complexes. This is the purpose of a dampener. Inside the black ball that is the part that fails is a membrane separating hydraulic side and nitrogen side. Nitrogen side absorbs the high pressure pulses that the pump produces when it is called upon by the system ie. when wheels hit bumps. The system will work with a failed dampener but the high pressure intermittently occurring pulses will be absorbed elsewhere. Like frame body parts to brake pedal and steering at rpm 2000and below. Again my experience and guessing based on my experience replacing the dampener. Vibration issues solved and ABC system is now performing as built.

Thanks MBCO,
I had no intention to do anything with it.
Although I did touch😁
Just curious of the purpose, like to learn.
That's all.
Anyway, I took the beast for a spin and my first impression is excellent. Car drives much smoother, specially going over bumps.
And if course the slight vibration that was present occasionally on the pump pulley is now gone.
Thank you guys.

Excellent work! Just double check for any leaks after a run from time to time.

Now you made me curious about my pulsation dampener. I get no ABC messages when going over bumps nor when even hitting harder potholes and stuff. It does sag over time when in garage, sometimes after a week or two, sometimes after couple of days. But i do feel that the ABC ride might be softer, even if i ride on 19' rims... i have about 37k miles on it and i doubt those were ever replaced. Should i replace mine?

I'll check the pulley too next time i'll drive it .
