BOOM!

What would cause a loud explosion from the back of my 2011 SL. Didn't see anything broken??

Vacuum chamber in the trunk. It's under your trunk mat and to the bottom forward as you are facing. They aren't too expensive to replace.

In my SL, that's what it was. Not sure if the 2011 SL 550 has the vacuum reservoir or it is built into the pump. If it is built into the vacuum pump, that's going to be expensive. It drives the vacuum system for the seats and other interior components.

Ouch! My replacement bill on ABC parts (shocks, valve blocks, pump etc) wholesale was roughly $7,000.00. (I and a buddy did most of the work) I just replaced everything so I won't have to worry about it for another 10-15 years. I can see why some jokingly suggest getting rid of it after the ABC blows up. Good luck.
