Sl550 roof pump fluid fill

I have a 2011 sl550 I'm having trouble filled the roof hydraulic pump. After removing the filer plug the fluid will not go in. I'm using a fluid pump that screw into the filler plug hole. As try to pump fluid in it just leak out the side of the plug hole. Can someone provide me with a better solution. Thanks

Welcome! Please post of photo of the SL. Someone will be along soon with suggestions. There are also SL-specific fora where you can post the question.

You might not be able to use a pump. See this post “2008 top won’t close” . In it Mr. Rudeny kindly provides this document which might help.

Not wanting to add confusion, I wonder if a 2011 car has this type of reservoir. My 2005 car has the type of reservoir with a filler hole and an air-release hole. Both are in the metal housing, not in the plastic reservoir. (Someone on this Forum wrote about dripping in oil along a thin steel wire).

A German-language forum suggests using a soldering iron to melt a 2nd hold in the plastic reservoir to allow air to escape. A rubber stopper or the like can then be used to plug the new air hole.

I did just that. For refreshing the oil, through a few cycles of sucking up and injecting. Strictly no drilling (debris)!
