A member wrote that many (all?) the WIS on eBay run under a virtual machine player. I'd try to find a version that doesn't. It will require a software key, but those are readily attainable. If you find such a copy, send me a PM. I want a copy for myself and could answer any questions you have about installation.

This is the one I bought. Took forever to download but worked fine thereafter.

So it might be a good idea to purchase a separate laptop just for the purpose of downloading information like this or I guess I could get some flash drives. I have definitely come to understand the benefit of having detailed information, specifically for the automobile you are working on. Thanks

You are correct. When I first got the car, I started out with just getting WIS from that eBay seller and loading it on my existing laptop. A few months afterwards I decided to get a SDS/DAS/Xentry system.
The laptop used for these systems already has WIS loaded onto it, so now I have two different computers with WIS.
There are some pretty heated opinions about what to buy and where to get it from. Just for your information I bought my laptop from this same eBay seller and it seems to be working fine.
I would just ask the seller to verify it has a SSD, not a HDD if you are interested. Mine did.

All I use now are SSDs. The Dell D630 I use in the garage for my cars has 8GB of RAM and an SSD and runs the VMWare virtualized version of SDS very well. I also keep that same virtualized copy on my Lenovo Yoga and two desktop PCs. They never connect to the car - I just have those to use for research. Again, everything runs just fine and fast, especially with an SSD.
Regardless of using a PC for SDS, if you have an older computer still using a mechanical hard drive, you can breath new life into it by installing an SSD and maxing out the RAM with at least 8GB.

I had hoped when I finally responded I would have a more positive response However I rebuilt the valve block and put it back on the car. Now I am getting an ABC Messg. and no response from the system. The drivers side is up in the air and the passenger side is on the tires and no response from the system. This may be a stupid question, but any port in a storm. Is it possible that the electrical connections to the block could be on in correctly, wouild that create this issue?

That doesn't seem to be the case with mine. I don't get any reaction when I press the ABC button on the console. The ABC indicator light comes on. Initially nothing happened, I started the car again and the left side went up and the entire right side stayed down. My confusion is, is that I thought the front and back had separate controls. Now nothing happens when I press the button. So are you saying that those electric connections on the block might create this issue? After all of your help you're probably thinking about sending me a bill. Thanks

You’re correct about separate controls for front/rear. I honestly have no idea if the rear valve block would malfunction because of an incorrect connection in the front valve block. This might be really hard to figure out without SDS.
Did you double check your plugs were in the correct sockets? There is a colored dot on the socket that matches the color of the tape on the cable.
Are your lines connected to the correct places? Here’s a pic from my car, I actually removed both front and rear valve blocks today so I can send them out to get rebuilt.

When the system acts in a peculiar manner I think you have to question whether the ABC computer is receiving bad data from its inputs, or the inputs are good but the computer has lost control of the valve blocks. The easiest way I can think of to resolve which is the case is to take manual control over the valve blocks and see if the struts respond correctly. Naturally Star Diagnosis can do this. One could use a lesser device and observe the sensor inputs, but drawing a conclusion might be a challenge that way.

Some people have reported strange behavior like that when they connected the plugs to the wrong sockets.
I would be shocked if you don’t have the dots, here’s a pic of mine, see the green and blue?

Copied from my post in another thread:
I bought this multiplexer
https://m.aliexpress.com/item/327510...df8bfce&is_c=N
I bought the laptop and software from the seller below on eBay. I read some opinions online that the 9/2014 version of the software was the best because later versions had some functionality restricted, no idea if it’s true. I also wanted to be sure to get developer mode.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Xentry-DAS-...EAAOSwcBpeGmCe
and this battery off Amazon
So I’m at around $400 all in.

On *******.com I have read that the 9/2014 version is the last which works with a C3 multiplexer. But that isn't true. I have the notion that what distinguishes the 9/2014 version is that it is the last for which the C3 will work with all or nearly all of the vehicles available for diagnosis. I believe that the latest version of Star Diagnosis will work with a C3, but there will be many c. 2015 and newer vehicles with which it can not communicate.

I have been on the highway the last few days, I took a trip in my 98 SL 500 to remind myself of the pleasure and enjoyment you get when they are performing as they are supposed to. I came home and checked the connections, they seem to be correct. Still no change. I want to purchase the tools that you suggested and I want to make sure I am buying the correct things. I had no idea what a multiplexer was or it's function, so I looked it up. Based on the conversations on this forum and the fact that you have one I am thinking I should have one too. So should I be purchasing both the XENTRY software and the multiplexer?

As far as software, you can get it from me for free. But the Chinese bundle the software with the multiplexer for just $50 more, and that may be worth a go. I don't like that their software runs under a virtual machine, because that slows things down. That can be compensated by running the software on an SSD and be quite satisfactory, but there remains the fact that all things being equal, software runs slower under a virtual machine
If you want my software, you'll need a hard drive of about 80 GB capacity. You'll also need Windows XP, and that can be downloaded for free from Softlay.net.
