SL/R230: New guy...
Picked up an '04 SL55 yesterday. PO must of had front end damage, or decided he liked the front chin from the P30 upgrade that was available. This isn't a P30, only paid 15k! lol. Ordered a drivers side PW switch, (broken buttons), and a used wind deflector, the old one has a tear.
94k miles, but runs strong, goes straight, (no drift), and stops great. All features work as the should, no issues with leather.
Other vehicles are a '69 Chrysler 300 'vert. Numbers matching BB440...all the way down to original carb, rear end, etc. A F350 4x4 dually, and then the wife's cars. Aprilia's, Harley, BMWs s far as current motorcycles.
Before I purchased, I looked at the few SL55's that were available within 100 miles or so. Most didn't have the dark gray interior I wanted, and had to be silver. Hardly any had the Pano roof which was a must for me in the looks department. One test I did, not sure if it's acceptable, but I would put the car on level ground, raise and lower suspension several times, and take measurements at each wheel, from top of rim to fender lip. Most, if not all had different measurements from left side to right side. This one was pretty close, but now today I see the left rear is lower that right rear. Front is perfect. Started her up ,let idle, still lower on left rear.
Going to look for a used SD diags tool. Tried to send a PM to a member here, but since I'm new, not sure if have to have a certain amount of posts before I can PM people. Will research that one. I knew this going in, that these suspensions can sometimes be an issue. I like to tinker, so I'm OK with it. I'll figure it out. For the price, what the heck lol. Also will want to change out wheels. PO put 19's on, but I think rears are too wide, or have wrong backspacing....seem to stick out just a tad too much, maybe just outside the fender lip...maybe.
Anyways, going to watch more youtube videos on SL55's and research some new/used wheels, and what correct backspacing should be. Thanks!
Few pics...
Since I have the SD software available for your car as a free download, I imagine it may have been me you tried to reach. I'll send you a PM this evening. You'd probably want a mulitplexer, of course, and new "C3" models with the necessary cables are $200 on aliexpress.com. A couple weeks ago a member posted the specific one that he had just bought, and it looked pretty good.
