I have not looked any more at the handle but i am pretty sure that the lever that comes from the trunk lid handle slides to the left so it does not engage and that is the problem

In this thread one repeated complaint is that the trunk opens halfway only. My lock has always done that. The thing is that you just just have to be a little more patient. Pulling the handle, using the door switch or using the remote: just wait for that definitive *click* and Pandora opens. Quarter of a second, perhaps, is all it takes. Yes, it’s an electric switch, but it actuates a mechanical device.
